If Emma Raducanu Can Make it Here.

Britain's 18-year-old tennis star Emma Raducanu saw her dreams come true in a real-life fairytale of New York.

She lost her opening match of the campaign at the Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose to China's Zhang Shuai, before retiring from her ITF W100 Landisville quarter-final against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz with what appeared to be heat exhaustion.

The teenager responded by making the Challenger final in Chicago, where she lost in three sets to Danish teenager Clara Tauson.

The ease of Raducanu's progress through the US Open draw was quite remarkable considering she was playing lower tier tournaments in the lead-up to Flushing Meadows.

She started her run with impressive qualifying wins over Bibiane Schoofs, 167th-ranked Georgian Mariam Bolkvadze, and Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the fourth seed in qualifying and a player having a fine season.

Raducanu had a stroke of luck when her intended opponent, last year's semi-finalist Jennifer Brady, pulled out through injury and she made short work of lucky loser Stefanie Voegele before exacting revenge over Zhang in the second round.

She did not face a top-100 player until her run to the fourth round of Wimbledon, but her victory over 41st-ranked Sara Sorribes Tormo, who she beat for the loss of one game in the third round, was even more extraordinary.

Next up was Shelby Rogers, who had defeated top seed Ashleigh Barty in the previous round, but Raducanu handled her debut at Arthur Ashe Stadium with aplomb, overcoming a nervy start with another run of 11 games.

A quarter-final against Swiss Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic, who had had won 13 of her 14 previous matches, was next, but Raducanu's heavy groundstrokes overwhelmed the world No 12. She then stormed into her maiden Grand Slam final with a nerveless display against Greek 17th seed Maria Sakkari.
