Samsung Galaxy A7, Sony Xperia Z4 Walkman, Microsoft Lumia 435, Google Glass
It's difficult to believe that it's already been a week since CES, but despite this year’s edition of the world's largest tech trade show coming to a close, we've still seen loads of great gadgets in the past seven days. From iPhone 6 Plus rivals, to an Aliens-style robotic suit, there's been some truly inspired kit popping up around the world - read on to catch up with all the biggest stories of the week.
Smartphones galore
Mi Note
Although there were still some announcements, including the LG G Flex 2, CES was curiously quiet on the smartphone front, so it's great to see things get back to normal. There was the Samsung Galaxy A7 for starters, kicking things off on Monday with a 5.5-inch screen and a jaw-dropping 6.3mm chassis, and things got better for mobile phones throughout the week.
We saw news of the Sony Xperia Z4 Walkman edition, which could pack in speakers to rival the HTC One (M8), and it's also claimed that the musical Xperia Z4 will support high-res audio codecs for even better sounding tunes.
But it's the Xiaomi Mi Note that really grabbed our attention, with the 5.7-inch beast packing a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage into a stunning glass and aluminium body that measures just 6.95mm in depth. It looks like the iPhone 6 Plus could have a fight on its hands - especially as there’s no camera jutting out here!
These budget blowers go back to basics
microsoft lumia 435
Not everybody can afford a high-end smartphone though, which is where the wallet-friendly Samsung Galaxy J1 comes in. With a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, the specs read like a handset that's a couple of years old, but it could also be a phone that's truly capable of going head-to-head with the Moto G at the affordable end of the market.
The new Microsoft Lumia 435 looks like being an even more affordable choice though, coming in at just £50! That will bag you a Windows Phone 8.1 blower with a 4-inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 3.5G connectivity. At that price, it's difficult to complain about anything!
Good news and bad news for Google fans
Glass fashion
It's been a mixed week for Google fans, with a host of announcements from the internet search giant, and not all of them necessarily positive. We saw the end of the Google Glass Explorer programme, and we're still not sure whether Google has decided to take its wearable to the next level, or has shelved it indefinitely.
On the plus side though, the company’s modular Project Ara smartphone is going full steam ahead, and there are plans to launch the first modular blower later this year.
We also saw news that Google's fully autonomous driverless car could be in use within just five years, giving us the chance to kick back, put our feet back and check out our favourite websites on the way to work. Sounds great to us!
And in other news...
mech suit
OK, so you'll be needing a cool £676,096, but out of all the gadgets we've seen this week, nothing gets close to the Kuratas Mech when it comes to sheer wow factor. Although if a giant robotic suit isn't quite your thing, how about a selfie stick for your bum? That's right, meet the Belfie, one of the most pointless gadgets we've ever seen! If nothing else, it's certainly original...
