Sutton Cycling Club
Sutton Cycling Club was formed in 1999 by local cycling enthusiasts to provide opportunities for young people to develop their cycling skills in safety with others of the same age, under the supervision of experienced riders and coaches. Its Constitution was drawn up to ensure that the Club retained its focus on under 18's. Our adult members are graduating Junior Riders, Parents, Coaches or Club Officials.
For some years the Club was sponsored by De Ver Cycles of South London, owned and run by Maurice Burton (a former professional cyclist and British Champion). Sutton Cycling Club has been affiliated to British Cycling, the sport's national governing body, from the outset. It has always participated in their programmes for young people, joining the latest, Go-Ride, at its inception in 2004. It is now your local Go-Ride Club, with activities on Saturday mornings in termtime at Sutton Grammar School's sports ground in Cheam.
The Go-Ride programme is all about having fun on a bike, learning to ride with skill and confidence and trying mini versions of the sport, all delivered in a safe, off-road environment by trained coaches. The activities can be adapted to all levels of rider, suiting both beginners and more experienced riders. Since autumn 2012, following the London Olympics, the Club has been oversubscribed and now has a Waiting List.
