Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club was formed over 30 years ago to promote the sport of BMX Racing in the area around Royston. Over the years, the Club has attracted members from across East Anglia and is widely recognised as one of the friendliest clubs in the country. The clubs race track is in Burns Road, Royston, which is easily accessible from the A505 Royston bypass. The club has a proud history of developing top riders and many of the current membership will be battling it out this year at all levels including the World Championships in Holland at the end of July. The clubs track was completely rebuilt in early 2013 with funding from the Sport England Inspire Fund and North Herts District Council so that it meets the current standards set down by British Cycling, the sport's governing body, and now always provides close racing, whatever the weather. Every Tuesday throughout the summer months (late April to early September) the Rockets run practice evenings and during the summer holidays a full race series which is based more on a riders ability rather than their age. The club also runs gate practice sessions on Tuesday evenings through the winter under flood lights and have coaching and practice session on Saturday afternoons throughout the year and a winter club race series runs on some Saturday afternoons in the winter. This club provides many opportunities for new riders to learn more about the sport of BMX racing and for the more experienced riders to practice their skills and pass them onto new members. The Rockets membership covers all ages and abilities and it is not unusual to see a very young rider being helped round the track by a National Elite class rider.
