Aikido is taught as a Japanese Martial Art in the way it was first brought to Europe by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei and other early pioneers. Derek Eastman, founder of the Basingstoke Aikido Club, was assistant to Henry Ellis Sensei at the first Aikido dojo in the UK ('The Hut' or Abbe School of Judo), and together they helped promote the new art of Aikido around the country. More than 50 years later, Sensei Eastman is still training and teaching, along with the next generation of instructors, including his son, Mark.

The club uses the Forms method of teaching, introduced by Masamichi Noro Sensei, complemented by study of the bayonet arts, including knife, club, sword and staff. The strong application of techniques taught at The Hut is still easily recognised, as is the closing down of the opponent's attack with the spiralling movement characteristic of Aikido.

Just like Texas, Andre the Giant, and a famous Tom Hanks movie, the Arena100 platform can be described in one word…BIG! Now we’ve got that awkward moment out the way here comes the good news. We’ve designed a User Guide section that can be used as a point of reference to answer all things "A100". Tutorials here detail how to best navigate the platform and maximise its capabilities for your enjoyment.
